Written plainly, because you should be able to read it in two minutes.
The three forms on Community Connect collect only what the office needs in order to respond: your name, your email address, an optional contact number, and the detail of your matter. Service delivery reports also ask for the location of the problem and, optionally, the reference number the municipality gave you.
What you send is emailed to the office address that matches the form you used, and it is used to respond to you and to follow your matter up. It is not sold, rented, published, or shared with anyone outside the office except where following up your matter requires it — for example, escalating a service delivery report to the responsible municipal entity.
Please do not send identity numbers, bank or card details, passwords, or medical information through this website. If a matter requires that kind of information, the office will arrange a safer way to handle it.
This website cannot respond to emergencies. If someone is in danger, contact the emergency services directly.
The assistant answers questions using content published on this website. To generate an answer, your question and the relevant section of the website are sent to OpenAI, an external AI service. That is the only external service this website sends anything to.
Conversations are not stored by this website. Nothing you type into the assistant is saved to a database here.
For the same reasons as above: do not type personal, medical or financial details into the assistant. It is a signpost to information already on the site, not a channel for confidential matters — use a form for that.
The community groups listed on Community Connect are ordinary WhatsApp groups. Following one of those invite links takes you to WhatsApp, where your phone number and profile name become visible to the other members of that group, as in any WhatsApp group. That is WhatsApp’s doing, not this website’s.
This website does not collect, see or store anything about who joins a group. If you would rather receive updates without being visible to other members, follow the official channel instead of joining a group.
There is no advertising, no analytics, no tracking pixels, no social media trackers and no third-party advertising scripts on this website. Nothing here follows you to other websites.
WordPress and Elementor, which run this site, may set functional cookies needed for the site to work and for administrators to sign in. They do not profile visitors.
This website links to municipal reporting portals, the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, WhatsApp, and social media platforms. Once you follow one of those links you are on someone else’s website, governed by their privacy practices, not these.
Messages sent through the forms are held in the office email account for as long as the matter is open, and thereafter for as long as is reasonable for constituency record-keeping.
Under the Protection of Personal Information Act, you may ask what personal information the office holds about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted where there is no continuing need to keep it. Write to the general enquiries address and say what you would like done.
