Born on 15 June 1961 in Lenasia, Johannesburg, Honourable Imraan Moosa is a proud son of a community that has played a central role in shaping his values, leadership style and commitment to public service. Having spent decades connected to the community, he developed a deep understanding of the challenges, aspirations and opportunities facing residents.
From his early years he displayed strong leadership qualities and a passion for representing others. He attended Park Primary School before completing his schooling at Trinity High School. During his high school years he served as Chairperson of the Student Representative Council through the challenging and transformative period of the late 1970s, developing early experience in leadership, advocacy and community engagement.
Beyond his formal education, his life has been shaped by practical experience, entrepreneurship and community involvement. He became involved in business development, including the growth of the Top Shops area, and later gained experience in real estate development. That experience gave him valuable insight into housing needs, community development, and the importance of sustainable growth within communities.
His commitment to serving others extended well beyond business and professional life. For many years he has been actively involved in community initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable individuals and families — assisting impoverished communities, supporting local orphanages, and contributing towards initiatives focused on social upliftment and community wellbeing.
He was among the founding members of Khidmatul Awaam, an initiative established to assist pilgrims and provide support throughout their journey — reflecting a dedication to helping others that has always existed outside formal political structures.

The journey began in Lenasia, Johannesburg — a community that played a significant role in shaping his character, values and commitment to service. Growing up in a diverse and vibrant community helped develop his understanding of unity, compassion, responsibility, and standing together during challenging times.
From his early years he developed an appreciation for community, responsibility and helping others. His upbringing taught him the importance of respect, cooperation, and the role each individual can play in strengthening society.

After serving the Lenasia community as a Ward Councillor, Honourable Imraan Moosa was sworn in as a Member of the National Assembly in June 2025, continuing his mission of representing communities at a national level.
Achieved four consecutive electoral victories in Lenasia, demonstrating strong community trust and confidence, and built a reputation for accessible, hands-on leadership and direct engagement with residents.
Developed strong communication channels between residents and leadership, promoted direct engagement through community platforms so residents’ concerns were heard and escalated, and encouraged a culture of accountability, transparency and solution-driven leadership.
Escalated electricity and water challenges, addressed road infrastructure concerns including potholes, worked with relevant stakeholders to improve service delivery, and responded to urgent community matters affecting residents.

His service-driven approach earned him the affection and respect of many residents, who came to refer to him as the “Beloved Councillor”.
